On 29 th October, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PMat the Performance Area (Carducci Pavilion) In the same year, Amano hosted (together with Neil Gaiman) the new edition of the very popular Sandman series. In the autumn of 1999, Amano presented a multimedia exhibition of his character Hero at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City. He also designed characters for games such as Front Mission, Gun Hazard, Rebus (released as Kartia in the US) and Emblem of Eru. His first project as a concept artist for video games, Final Fantasy, became a worldwide success. At the same time, he collaborated with director Mamoru Oshii in 1984 to create the animated film Angel’s Egg, which has become a cult in Japan. These works include Vampire Hunter D by Hideyuki Kikuchi, Guin Saga by Kaoru Kurimonto, Arslan Chronicles by Yoshiki Tanaka and Rasen-O (Spiral King) and Chimera by Baku Yumemakura. He continued to collaborate with various writers, creating almost 20 picture books that sold millions of copies. In 1984, he published his first collection of paintings, Maten (Evil Universe). At the age of 15, Amano took part in designing the characters of many of Tatsunoko’s greatest cartoons, including Gatchaman (released in the US as G-Force and Battle of the Planets), Hutch the Honeybee and Cashaan: Robot Hunter. Yoshitaka Amano was born in 1952 in a small town in Shizuoka, Japan.
